This seems to be pretty historic! A green bright comet named C/2022 E3 (ZTF) is set to make its closest approach to Earth in two weeks, the comet was discovered in March when transiting through Jupiter's orbit, E3 will reach perihelion on January 8, after that will be visible without glasses.. This is pretty rare, as space sites are reporting. Here is what is known: It was discovered in March 2022. NASA reported that the rare green comet was spotted using a wide-field survey camera at CalTech's Zwicky Transient Facility within Jupiter's orbit. Since then, it has hurdled ever closer to the Sun, and as NASA noted in a post about the comet, it will reach its perigee, or closest point to us on Earth, on February 1. One of the 18 golden segments of the James Webb Space Telescope’s giant mirror was hit by a micrometeoroid in May, according to an   update from NASA .  Scientists believe that the space observatory is still on track to share its first high-resolution, full-color images on July 12. This July 12 set of pictures should be breathtaking..  A micrometeoroid is a particle in space that is smaller than a grain of sand.  Earth’s atmosphere is hit by millions of meteoroids and micrometeoroids on a regular basis, but most are vaporized when they hit the atmosphere, according to NASA.

There are some startling developments in the Ukraine invasion ..  this time not involving land but instead space itself  As Russia gets more aggressive in the wake of the new war, it would appear that the lives of astronauts aboard the international space station are now in the crosshairs.. News broke hours ago that a large meteor was spotted in multiple locations over the Northeast .. some reports even include places as far as Michigan seeing it.. This publicly available footage is from March 21, 2021 around 12:33 EST.. People from reported it from Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, and New York City..

The  meteor that exploded  over the state of Vermont on the evening of March 7 was detected by ground-based seismometers,  NASA  has said. The space rock violently broke apart in Earth's atmosphere around 33 miles high, causing a shockwave that could be measured and heard by instruments NASA revised its speed estimate on March 8 and said the meteor was traveling at around 42,000 miles per hour. This is more than 20 times faster than a rifle bullet, or 55 times faster than the speed of sound. The speed estimate was based on more than 100 eyewitness reports. The space rock then hit the Earth's atmosphere, where air resistance caused pressure to build up ahead of the asteroid at the same time as a vacuum was formed behind it. This pressure difference caused the meteor to violently explode with the force of around 440 pounds of TNT. Local reports say the force was felt by those on the ground, while a boom was also heard.
