There was just an enormous solar flare

Earth-orbiting satellites have just detected an X6.3-class solar flare from sunspot AR3590 (Feb. 22 @ 2234 UT). This is the strongest flare of Solar Cycle 25, and the third X-flare the sunspot has produced in a 24 hour period.  This sucker was big.. This most recent X class flare is rated as a X 6.3. It generated an R3 radio blackout, which is considered “strong” on a 5-point scale, where R1 is “minor” with weak or minor degradation of HF radio communications and navigation signals while 5 is “extreme” with a complete radio blackout on the entire sunlit side of the Earth lasting for a number of hours; such an event would also knock navigation systems off-line, which could lose to loss of positioning, especially by boats and planes. For real.. No more of this recent X1-class nonsense, this X6.4-class flare is now the largest confirmed flare since September 2017.

What caused this?! Massive cell outages across America

Depending on your service plan and depending on your location, there’s a good chance that you will not be reading this when it’s posted.. ..there are nationwide outages of various communication companies such as AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. The outages have been widespread and also have caused some panic amongst users across the United States  online. At the time this post is being written, big communications companies have yet to reveal why this occurred. Some have speculated that a large solar flare, which emitted from the sun on February 21st, may have been to blame. Others, however, have downplayed that suggestion. 911 centers across the United States, including Massachusetts, have urged people not to use their cell phones when calling 911. Yes indeed, it all feels weird lately doesn’t it .. CELL OUTAGE HITS AT&T NATIONWIDE VERIZON, T-MOBILE AFFECTED 911 CRASHES ‘WORLD IS ENDING’ SOLAR FLARE? MAP

Watching for solar activity

A stream of incredibly fast solar wind has started to impact the Earth today, and the National Weather Service’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC)  says G1-class geomagnetic storm conditions are possible tomorrow. The SWPC has issued a warning with a geomagnetic K index of 4 expected sometime between 1345 UTC and 2359 UTC on June 15.  “Area of impact primarily poleward of 65 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude,” the SWPC said in a warning message issued today. Induced currents and weak power grid fluctuations can occur. Aurora, also known as “Northern Lights”, may be visible at high latitudes such as Canada and Alaska this evening. TWO WEBSITES TO WATCH:  https://spaceweather.com/   https://www.solarham.net/ More information: A G1 Geomagnetic Storm Watch is in effect, with G1-Minor conditions possible on both Wednesday and Thursday. By Friday, the SWPC believes the geomagnetic storm conditions will no longer be present. With this geomagnetic storm, the area of impact i...
