PLUS SIZE LAYOFF: Sports Illustrated dying right in front of us

The news, first reported by Front Office Sports, came less than 24 hours after publisher The Arena Group announced “a significant reduction in its workforce,” comprising 100 employees. Arena said it continued to manage “substantial” debt and recently missed payments, and that the layoffs were part of “cost-cutting measures to initiate a transformative shift towards a streamlined business model.” According to FOS, Sports Illustrated’s parent company, Authentic Brands Group, has sought to revoke Arena’s license to publish SI after Arena missed a payment. Richard Deitsch of The Athletic separately tweeted Friday an image of an email sent out to workers that said “staff” who worked for the Sports Illustrated brand were being laid off. The union representing SI’s staff said in a tweeted statement that it had been notified of Arena’s intention to “lay off a significant number, possibly all” of its union-represented staff. Was it go Woke go Broke? Was it the swimsuit edition? Plus size models...

Major social media platforms begin banning RT and other Russian sources

Facebook is restricting access to content from RT and Sputnik on both its main social media platform and Instagram following “requests from a number of governments,” according to he company’s vice president Nick Clegg. Users who attempt to visit the YouTube channels of either Sputnik or RT or watch videos posted from those channels are now met with a message saying “this channel is not available in your country,” and “this video is not available in your country,”  This even applies to non-EU countries, including the UK.

The Sky is the limit

Google   has banned Sky News Australia from uploading content to YouTube for one week after the news platform allegedly breached its rules on spreading so-called 'Covid misinformation'. According to the channel, the videos that provoked the censorship included 'debates around whether masks were effective and whether lockdowns were justified when considering their adverse health outcomes'.   According to all media reports, the platform did not say which specific video violated terms of service, but further strikes against the channel could result in more prohibitions or even, at worst, permanent cancellation altogether.

No, you did not read the news today oh boy

All the news making headlines… good luck finding what matters! This post just will take a brief out from the perils of modern life. There ARE really things in the world happening besides the COVID hangover.. besides Democrats and Republicans fighting about the latest insignificant event. And we are told to trust the ‘trusted’ sources.. the news media! Hear them snooze! While real events occur, they are busy posting lame headlines for click bait and talking heads on TV for ratings. Do they even get ratings anymore? Ahh.. who cares, right? YouTube pumps them to the top of the algorithm .. Twitter brands them. They are number one baby. But despite their accredited and heralded abilities to give you headlines that matter, they so often neglect news. Like, the real news. The things that actually happen. Local news had to report what big networks failed to: All this summer a hazy smoke has been in the air shading the sun even more orange near nightfall. Sure, it made for cool photos.. but wh...

Mass shootings in a town near you becomes a manufactured headline

Talk show host Clyde Lewis tonight posted something notable on Facebook: A screen grab of various "local news" headlines from across America that said the exact same thing..  "MASS SHOOTINGS SURGE IN ___________ AS NATION FACES RECORD HIGH"  Just insert you state for local digestion. Lewis wrote, People tell me I have a knack for seeing the future.. Nope I have a knack for seeing programming and how news is all pack journalism -- I have worked for two news organizations -- I know how this is done. This is their agenda. When your read the actual various links, no "local" news sources say where the 'mass shootings' in that particular state took place..  Post after post written by Marco della Cava and Mike Stucka have different paragraphs but end with the same language: With COVID-19 cases falling and vaccines rolling out, some criminologists hope a rebounding economy and reopened schools will drive down the national numbers in 2021. Early results are...
