Health officials announced on Friday that the White House has ordered 500,000 more doses of a vaccine believed to be effective against monkeypox. Dawn O’Connell, assistant secretary for preparedness and response for the Department of Health and Human Services, announced during a press briefing that the U.S. had ordered half a million liquid, frozen doses of the Jynneos smallpox vaccine. MORE.. The order, announced on Friday, is expected to be delivered later this year. O’Connell also stated that the U.S.’s Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) currently has 72,000 doses of Jynneos in its immediate inventory, and an additional 300,000 are expected to arrive in the next few weeks. Apart from Jynneos, the SNS also has more than 100 million doses of the ACAM2000 smallpox vaccine, though health officials noted that there has been a preference for Jynneos. 

  Will monkeypox spread as fast as COVID? “If we all react quickly and we all work together, we will be able to stop this,” said the World Health Organization’s Dr. Rosamund Lewis. “We will be able to stop it before it reaches more vulnerable people and before it establishes itself as a replacement for smallpox.” “It’s really important to do everything we can to try and control it,” Inglesby agreed, “but we’re not going to see the same kinds of early numbers we did as COVID because it’s spreading in different ways.”

Yulin dog meat festival set to see thousands slaughtered over 10 days The 10-day gathering, which takes place in southern China’s Guangxi province, is officially known as the Lychee and Dog Meat Festival, in reference to the fruit that is also commonly consumed during the festivities. Thousands of visitors flock to the Yulin festival every year to eat dishes such as dog meat stew and crispy dog meat . But the slaughter of dogs and animal welfare practices at the festival have been criticized in China and abroad. When the event was launched more than a decade ago, an estimated 10,000-plus dogs were slaughtered during its core days, according to Humane Society International (HSI).

One of the 18 golden segments of the James Webb Space Telescope’s giant mirror was hit by a micrometeoroid in May, according to an   update from NASA .  Scientists believe that the space observatory is still on track to share its first high-resolution, full-color images on July 12. This July 12 set of pictures should be breathtaking..  A micrometeoroid is a particle in space that is smaller than a grain of sand.  Earth’s atmosphere is hit by millions of meteoroids and micrometeoroids on a regular basis, but most are vaporized when they hit the atmosphere, according to NASA.

  Investigators revealed on Thursday that Louis left behind a note where he blamed Dr Phillips for the ongoing pain he experienced after his surgery. “Tulsa Police called me and verified that it’s my uncle,” Louis’ niece told The Daily Beast. “We are so distraught.” The family member declined to be named, citing the “heinous” nature of the crime. “I don’t even want to be associated because I’m so disgusted,” she told the Beast.

At least three people are dead and multiple people are injured following a shooting at the Natalie Building at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, according to police.
