Long COVID’s long shadow

Recently the @CDCgov acknowledged that 1 in 5 people will develop a new health condition (#LongCovid) after infection.

Then today, the biggest study to date notes vaccines only reduce Long Covid incidence by 15%. ..

this number is interesting, juxtapose to numbers from the United Kingdom, America is reporting much higher incidents of long Covid. Overacross the pond, only about 2% of the population has self reported a long-term symptom related to the Covid infection.

We don’t believe that makes the American numbers incorrect or creates a false sense that the lower British numbers are right either.

Thinking back to the Covid infections as they were really astronomically high during 2021, let’s not forget how Americans were affected. Incidences of death in the United States seem to be somewhat higher than other industrialized nations. Perhaps it’s due to an overall health decline of the American population, or even due to the Americans being  massively overweight when compared to other countries.

Perhaps that is the reason why, if these higher long Covid numbers are accurate, Americans are feeling more of the wrath of the syndrome.

But who are we? Not experts. Just glancing through the daily news and trying to make some sense of it.
