  Three years before  the deadly collapse  of the Champlain Towers South condominium complex near Miami, a consultant found alarming evidence of “major structural damage” to the concrete slab below the pool deck and “abundant” cracking and crumbling of the columns, beams and walls of the parking garage under the 13-story building. The engineer’s report helped shape plans for a multimillion-dollar repair project that was set to get underway soon — more than two and a half years after the building managers were warned — but the building  suffered a catastrophic collapse  in the middle of the night on Thursday, crushing sleeping residents in a massive heap of debris.   THE AP REPORTING: American authorities seized a range of Iran’s state-linked news website domains they accused of spreading disinformation, the U.S. Justice Department said Tuesday, a move that appeared to be a far-reaching crackdown on Iranian media amid heightened tensions between the two countries. The Justice Department said 33 of the seized websites were used by the Iranian Islamic Radio and Television Union, which was singled out by the U.S. government last October for what officials described as efforts to spread disinformation and sow discord among American voters ahead of the 2020 presidential election. The U.S. says three other seized websites were operated by the Iraqi Shiite paramilitary group, Kata’ib Hizballah, which more than a decade ago was designated a foreign terrorist organization.   Iran’s only nuclear power plant has undergone an unexplained temporary emergency shutdown, state TV reported on Sunday… Relying more on the official ‘government’ word about this:  An official from state electric company Tavanir, Gholamali Rakhshanimehr, said on a talk show that the Bushehr plant shutdown began on Saturday and would last “for three to four days.”Without elaborating, he said that power outages could result.  Here is more we know from official reporting: This is the first time Iran has reported an emergency shutdown of the plant, located in the southern port city of Bushehr. It went online in 2011 with help from Russia. Iran is required to send spent fuel rods from the reactor back to Russia as a nuclear nonproliferation measure… Most of the media is still not reporting much on  Bushehr ..  BUT they also have not reported on another still developing incident at the Taishan nuclear plant in China.. Just as some are beginning to speculate...

  Uganda’s team had all been vaccinated with AstraZeneca shots and tested negative for the virus before departure, Japanese media reported,  according to the Associated Press . The SWPC has issued a warning with a geomagnetic K index of 4 expected sometime between 1345 UTC and 2359 UTC on June 15.  “Area of impact primarily poleward of 65 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude,” the SWPC said in a warning message issued today. CNN is splashing a ‘crisis level’ series of stories about ransomware attacks.. one profiled article is about the Energy Secretary stating that foreign powers or others have the ability to shut down America’s power grid. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Sunday warned in stark terms that the US power grid is  vulnerable to attacks . Asked By CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" whether the nation's adversaries have the capability of shutting it down, Granholm said: "Yeah, they do." "There are thousands of attacks on all aspects of the energy sector and the private sector generally," she said, adding, "It's happening all the time. This is why the private sector and the public sector have to work together." These long hot summer months just got more tense ..

The AP reporting: A technical issue that involved “no major safety concerns” forced Vice President Kamala Harris’ plane to return to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland about 30 minutes after she had left Sunday on a trip to Guatemala and Mexico. The plane landed safely and she gave a thumbs-up when she got off. “I’m good, I’m good. We all said a little prayer, but we’re good,” she said. The vice president departed in another plane about an hour and a half later.  Her spokesperson, Symone Sanders, told reporters traveling with Harris that there was a technical issue with the original plane but it caused “no major safety concerns.”

More than 600 small earthquakes have been recorded this weekend in a rural area near the Salton Sea in Southern California, with the largest having a magnitude of 5.3, a  US Geological Survey  geophysicist told CNN. Geophysicist Randy Baldwin said 603 temblors with a magnitude of at least 1 happened in the area from Saturday to just before sunrise Sunday. The quakes were centered near Calipatria, along the San Andreas Fault and about 30 miles north of the Mexican border,  the USGS map shows .

  The CDC noted a rise in COVID-19 related hospitalizations in adolescents in March and April, and the agency’s leader is now urging parents to vaccinate their teenagers.
